Our History
Walker Family Law has a wealth of experience in providing family related legal services to individuals across the South West and has an extensive history throughout the years.
- 1992 – Ian Walker, founder of Walker Family Law, qualifies as a solicitor in England.
- 1996 – Ian gained membership to the Law Society Children Panel with only 3 years PQE.
- 1996 – Ian trains as a mediator in the first round of Resolution & Mediation training.
- 1998 – Ian is named as a leader in the field in the Chambers Directory.
- 2003 – Ian becomes a member of the Law Society Family Law Committee.
- 2005 – Training as a collaborative family lawyer, Ian sets up collaborative training in Devon.
- 2009 – Ian becomes Chair of Devon Resolution.
- 2012 – Using his wealth of experience, Ian sets up Walker Family Law in Honiton.
- 2014 – Ian is re-elected as Chair of Devon Resolution.
- 2015 – Karen Elliot joins the business.
- 2019 – Through continued expansion and growth, Walker Family Law moves to Exeter with a new head office.
- 2020 – Walker Family Law gains entry into Legal 500.
- 2020 – The business surpases £1m turnover.
- 2020 – Walker Family Law becomes an award winning legal firm with multiple winners at the DASLS Awards.
- 2020 – The Divorce Support Club is launched, providing specialised support to those going through a divorce.
- 2021 – Ian wins the Sole Practitioner category at the Law Society Excellence Awards.
- 2021 – The business surpases £2m turnover.
- 2022 – Walker Family Law gains membership of the ICACU Panel and entry in Chambers.
- 2023 – Ian is named as Resolution Regional Champion at the Resolutions Awards.
- 2023 – The business undergoes a rebrand, becoming the Walker Family Law you see today.
- 2024 – Walker Family Law starts offering Resolution Together, the first South West legal firm to do so.
- 2024 – Ian is elected to the Resolution National Committee.
- 2025 – A restructure to help better serve our clients takes place, with turnover surpassing £2.5m.
