Lucy McCabe

Solicitor

Lucy McCabe is a solicitor in the Care Team.

Lucy specialises in children law, with a particular focus on public law proceedings including representing parents in pre-proceedings. Lucy is experienced in representing parents and interveners in neglect, non-accidental injury (NAI) and fabricated or induced illness (FII) cases concerning children.

Lucy also has experience in representing vulnerable parents in private proceedings relating to their children, including child arrangements.

Background and Education

Lucy has previous paralegal experience at Clarke Willmott (Commercial Property) and Harris Fowler (Personal Injury) between 2017 – 2020 prior to joining Walker Family Law in September 2020 as a paralegal in the children team. She started a specialist family law training contract with the firm in May 2021 and qualified as solicitor with the firm in November 2022.

Prior to this, Lucy completed her undergraduate studies at Queen Mary, University of London where she obtained a first-class honours degree in Geography. Lucy chose to pursue a career in law as she wanted a career representing the interests of vulnerable people dealing with everyday injustices.

She completed her Graduate Diploma in Law at the University of Law (Exeter) in 2017 before completing her Legal Practice Couse part-time at the University of Law (Bristol) in 2019. While at the University of Law (Exeter) she won ‘Best Research Project’ for a research report investigating the legal powers and duties of local authorities and the court orders they can apply for in respect of child protection matters.

“I chose a career in law because I wanted a career that involved using my problem-solving skills to help people through the most challenging points in their lives. I enjoy supporting and working with families to secure a positive outcome for the parents and children involved.”

Spare Time

“I am a keen sportswoman and enjoy playing and watching netball. I was fortunate to represent my university netball club. In addition to my love of netball, I am a lifelong England and Essex County Cricket Club fan. I enjoy following my cricket teams across the country in the summer months with family and friends.”

Lucy is a passionate animal rights advocate and, when she is not involved in supporting local charities and sanctuaries, she is testing her vegan culinary skills in the kitchen.

Lucy has been on the committee of Devon and Somerset Junior Lawyers’ Division as the Somerset Representative (2021 – 2023) and Communications Representative (2022 – 2023).
