Ian Walker Family Law and Mediation Solicitors just got bigger

Welcome to Carrie Meikle

In April 2016 our team was joined by Carrie Meikle.

Carrie Meikle is a specialist family law solicitor who qualified as a solicitor in 2010.

Carrie grew up in Taunton. She trained as a solicitor with another East Devon practice before moving to Plymouth. Carrie decided to specialise as a family solicitor when she qualified. Carrie has gained good experience in Plymouth with Plymouth Solicitors, Wolferstans and Howard & Over.

Carrie is going to be a real asset to our team. She brings with her some very good experience.I know this because I know the solicitors she has worked with.

Our new team

The team at Ian Walker Family Law and Mediation Solicitors now consists of (left to right in the picture) Danielle Coombes – trainee legal executive; Ian Walker – solicitor; Karen Elliott – chartered legal executive and Carrie Meikle – solicitor. We are all lawyers specialising in family law.

From our main office in Honiton we are able to meet the needs of our clients in East Devon, Exeter, Taunton and South Somerset.

Strength and depth

Our expanded team of family law specialists gives us additional capacity and will hopefully enable us to meet the needs of our clients better.

We undertake all aspects of family law including assisting clients with divorce and financial orders, helping parents sort out the arrangements for their children and representing parents in cases with social services. We also assist clients obtain protection from domestic abuse.

20 years a mediator and 20 years on the Children Panel

2016 also brings two important anniversaries for Ian Walker. Ian qualified as a solicitor in 1992. In 1996 at the first opportunity Ian gained membership of the prestigious Law Society Children Panel. This means Ian has 20 years of experience of complicated cases concerning children.

Also in 1996, Ian was amongst the first solicitors who trained as a mediator with the Solicitors Family Law Association (now known as Resolution). These days Ian also supervises the work of other family mediators

Along the way Ian is also served on the Family Law Committee of the Law Society and as a trustee of the Family Mediators Association. Ian is the current chair of the Devon region of Resolution. Ian deals with all aspects of family law including divorce and financial relief. Indeed, Ian was amongst the first solicitors to train in collaborative family law which is a process which assists divorcing couples to achieve fair financial solutions in a more constructive way than through traditional solicitor/solicitor negotiation

We would like to get even bigger

There are now four of us at Ian Walker Family Law and Mediation Solicitors. We would like to grow some more over the next year and are very open to recruiting one or two additional specialist family law solicitors. As Specialist Family Law Solicitors and as a family mediation service, we regularly represent clients who live around Devon and South Somerset, including in places such as Honiton, Taunton, Exeter, Sidmouth, Seaton, Axminster, Chard, Ilminster, Exmouth, Wellington, Tiverton, Cullompton, Ottery St Mary, Colyton. From our consulting rooms in Taunton we are able to assist clients in places such as Bridgwater, Minehead, Street.

That said, we don’t want to get too big. Our aim is to keep how own overheads low so that we can work to competitive hourly charging rates. We also want to be a team which is small enough to adapt quickly to changes in the practice of family law and changes to the needs of our clients.
